Pirates Stadium, Cornwall’s First Ever Stadium

Archilime are proud to be part of the Cornish Pirates pioneering project to build the first ever stadium for Cornwall. The £14.3m project will provide an impressive new home ground for the rugby club along with Truro City football club and Truro & Penwith College who will share use of the stadium. The proposed venue will be is located in Threemilestone near Truro and has recently secured both planning permission and public sector funding to go ahead.

A CGI animation and a series of architectural visualisations produced for the club by Archilime have been key to winning hearts and minds across Cornwall and the South West. The video played a crucial role in gathering support for the bid and building online engagement around the project, allowing people to see the proposed stadium from all sides for the first time and get excited about it. Needless to say, the club were delighted with the results:

“Archilime provided a very impressive animation of our proposed stadium, which brought the intended project to life playing an important part in helping people visualise the building and understand our ambitions for the Stadium for Cornwall.” ~ Tom Magill, General Manager, Cornish Pirates Rugby Club

The planned stadium can accommodate up to 6,000 people for an event and will offer cutting edge sporting, conference and catering facilities for both teams and students of the college. In fact, the development is set to benefit all of Cornwall, bringing new employment opportunities and a state of the art health club for local clubs and organisations to use, as well as the obvious sporting and entertainment opportunities. It is scheduled for completion before the 2019-2020 rugby and football seasons begin.

This ambitious stadium project presented an exciting challenge for our creative team. Our client requested a set of 3D architectural visualisations as well as a CGI animation offering a detailed view of the development from multiple angles with a sense of scale, setting and structure. The aerial angles were carefully selected to offer the maximum of architectural detail and show the interrelation between different elements of the design.

As well as highlighting key design features and the placement of the project in its surrounding environment, the exterior CGIs produced by our team clearly illustrate key operational elements of the design such as parking, access, lighting and pedestrian flow. Our CGI artists populated the scene with vehicles and pedestrians to give a sense of scale, access and traffic flows, as well as landscaping the surrounds with relevant mature planting to bring the project to life.

The campaign featuring our animation and CGI images turned out to be a great success and the project is moving forward positively in 2018. Our clients were coordinating the marketing and communications campaigns around the stadium proposal alongside the Cornish Pirates, and they too were delighted with the results:

“The team at Archilime solved our client’s problem quickly and professionally, and were a pleasure to work with.” ~ Richard Forshaw-Smith, Managing Partner, RFS Marketing & Communications Ltd.
